I have to add my vote, too, for Vector Shapes. I use them ALL the time in Fireworks when I'm creating the graphic elements for my web layouts. Using the solution suggested by using Shape/Select tools and Stroke/Fill feels like more of workaround. Yes, we can do it that way, but it takes much longer and it's less efficient.
